About Bellydance

Some say the belly dance was used as a form of worship ceremony in ancient temples dedicated to the Goddess. It was thought that music and dance emanated energy and was considered sacred and pure therefore offered to the Goddess who in return would grant them good health, fertility, and a prosperous season. Others say it was a form of entertainment used to please the great Pharaohs of Egypt. While there is other belief, that belly dance was originally brought by traveling gypsies from the Far East and used as a trade and means of survival. What we certainly do know is that it has been around since the beginning of time itself.

Today a majority of it is used in festivities, celebrating joyful proceedings, although, many secret Matriarchy cults still practice ancient fertility rites and ceremonies invoking to female Goddesses.

In the past, women have been suppressed by those having a subconscious trait of inferiority especially towards women in the arts who utilize their bodies as tools of expression. Unfortunately, today some still hold that mentality.
