10 Tips for your first Belly dance class for Students:
- Respect the Instructor.
- Listen to your instinct, if you don't feel comfertable with your instructor move on!! There are plenty of teachers out there, chose one you like.
- Stretch before classes.
- Go to the gym, work on your cardio, it will increase your stanima and endurance.
- Be consistant, show up for classes.
- Do some research, if there is a movement you want to learn ask your teacher, she should be able to accomodate you if not find a new teacher.
- Be realistic, your not going to be professional in just 10 classes. If you want to excel take private lessons.
- Wear proper attire i.e. yoga pants, most classes are taught bare feet, no socks!
- Bring a hip scarf or buy one on-line.
- Practice at home* will allow you to progress sooner.
10 Tips for your first Belly dance class for Teachers:
- Teach according to level, start with basic moves and progress slowly.
- Make students feel comfertable, never centre a beginner out, leave them alone to learn at their own pace
- Be friendly & supportive. Students can sense negative vibes.
- After showing a move...ask "who needs help?".
- Have a list of what moves you would like to teach for that class. There's nothing worse than a "blank canvas" or repeating the same moves or lesson.
- Teach your classes avoid someone else substitute for you. Students usually prefer the same teacher rather than turn overs.
- Be patient! it can be frustrating teaching a beginner but have faith in them.
- Teach to you favorite bellydance music, it will motivate you.
- Educate them on Region of where movements or dance come from.
- Break the ice, talk about your personal experience as a working bellydancer/teacher in the field.
